INGREDIENTS EXPLAINED:
Turmeric hydrosol: Hydrosols are the water portion of an essential oil purification process. They typically have some activity on skin, though greatly reduced from purified extracts or essential oils. Turmeric hydrosol is anti-inflammatory, which is why it is in this formula.
Rose hydrosol: Hydrosols are the water portion of an essential oil purification process. They typically have some activity on skin, though greatly reduced from purified extracts or essential oils. Rose hydrosol is anti-inflammatory, which is why it is in this formula.
Pseudoalteromonas ferment extract (and) acetyl tripeptide-30 citrulline (and) pentapeptide-18: This is a complex of molecules that work to protect connective tissue from degradation, help reconstruct extracellular matrix components, provide a wound healing effect and reduce skin tension. The result is firmer, smoother skin.
Galactoarabinan: Meet my new favorite ingredient! Galactoarabinan has a wicked cool name, first off. Besides that, this polysaccharide extracted from Larch trees is basically the Swiss army knife of skincare ingredients. It can reduces transepidermal water loss (TEWL), minimizes fine lines, stabilizes emulsions, helps disperse particulates uniformly in a formula, AND it can boost the spf of sunscreen formulations significantly (25-55%). In this formula, it is being used for its skin tightening and emulsion stabilizing properties. (Get it together, every other skincare active that can only do one thing!)
Pumpkin Seed extract: This active ingredient functions by stimulating the synthesis of collagen and by inhibiting the activity of enzymes which contribute to its degradation. It has been shown to smooth the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Jojoba oil: Jojoba oil is a lightweight, fast-absorbing oil with a structure similar to that of sebum, which is produced by the skin. It is a great emollient to use in formulas for oily/combo skin because it won’t cause breakouts. In this formula, it is present as a fast-absorbing emollient.
Camellia Seed oil: Camellia seed oil is a fast-absorbing oil with antioxidant activity. It is present in this formula as an emollient.
Hibiscus oil: Hibiscus oil is a medium-weight oil that is both moisturizing and possesses antioxidant activity, making it one of my favorite oils for anti-aging products.
Tomato Seed oil: Tomato seed oil is a light to medium-weight oil that is loaded with antioxidants.
Aloe Vera: Aloe vera has been shown to have anti-inflammatory, hydrating, and antioxidant activity with regards to skin. In this formula, it is present as both a moisturizing agent and an anti-inflammatory active.
Tetradecyl aminobutyroylvalylaminobutyric urea trifluoroacetate: This active ingredient works to firm skin via the increased production of hyaluronan and the formation of stronger collagen. Hyaluronan is a glucosaminoglycan that can bind a significant amount of water. This exceptional moisture-binding ability creates a gel-like framework for collagen, elastin and skin cells. The combo of fresh hyaluronan and stronger collagen help to fight skin-sagging that comes with life under gravity.
Dimethyl isosorbide: DMI is added to this formula as a penetration enhancer (hehe) to enhance penetration of actives to the epidermis, reaching areas that would otherwise go untreated. It also helps to stabilize active ingredients.
Tripeptide 29: A tripeptide that has been shown to increase collagen synthesis, leading to firmer skin with fewer wrinkles.
Hydroxyethyl acrylate / sodium acryloyldimethyl taurate copolymer: This ingredient is the gelling agent for the serum. It is a Hydro-Swelling Droplet (HSD) form of emulsifier, and is used for cold emulsions, in which no ingredients are heated during the formulation of the product.
Tocopherol: Tocopherol is Vitamin E, and acts as a preservative in this formula, preventing the oxidation of the oils in the product and increasing the shelf life.
Fragrance: This is the scent that is added to the product. Fragrance oil manufacturers are not required by law to disclose what compounds are in their fragrance oils. However, some will tell you what is NOT in their fragrance oils, and I base my fragrance oil purchases on this information. I make sure my fragrance oils are free of phthalates and known carcinogens. Because fragrance may be a source of irritation in a product formula, I offer all my products fragrance free as well as scented.
Phenoxyethanol: This ingredient is a preservative, and is responsible for preventing the growth of bacteria, mold, fungus, yeast, etc.
Lactobacillus ferment: This ingredient is a preservative, and is responsible for preventing the growth of bacteria, mold, fungus, yeast, etc.
