New 20 face wash is made to cleanse your skin without stripping any necessary moisturizing factors from it. This makes it perfect for dry/aging skin types, although other skin types may use it. With dry and aging skin, it is imperative that your cleanser be as low foam and non-stripping as possible, as those skin types are already suffering from a deficit of moisture in their skin. This product has emollients like shea butter and avocado oil to keep skin supple, while the goat milk and honey powders help moisturize. Panthenol and ceramides protect and moisturize, while hibiscus extract protects skin’s elastin and acts as an antioxidant. The surfactant blend is very mild and low foam. This really is the perfect face wash for dry/aging skin types.

Description

INGREDIENTS: Distilled water, decyl glucoside (and) cocamidopropyl hydroxysultaine (and) sodium lauroyl sarcosinate, ceteareth-20 (and) cetearyl alcohol, monoi butter, shea butter, sunflower seed oil, avocado oil, goat milk powder, honey, ceramide 3, panthenol, hibiscus extract, methylsulfonylmethane (MSM), cornstarch, cetyl esters, tocopherol, gluconolactone (and) sodium benzoate, fragrance, EDTA

INGREDIENTS EXPLAINED:

Decyl glucoside (and) cocamidopropyl hydroxysultaine (and) sodium lauroyl sarcosinate: This is a blend of three different surfactants (cleansing agents). Surfactants are the ingredients in cleansers that clean your skin.

Cetearyl alcohol (and) Ceteareth-20: This is the emulsifier in the formula. An emulsifier is a compound that is able to bind to both polar and nonpolar molecules in a solution. In skincare, an emulsifier is what holds the oil and water phases of the formula together. There are lots of different types of emulsifiers, with different properties. This particular emulsifier is what is known as an ‘oil in water’ emulsifier, because it emulsifies a small oil phase in a larger water phase.

Monoi butter: Soft butter infused with tahitian gardenia.

Shea butter: One of my all-time favorite skincare ingredients! This butter is obtained from the karite tree, and it’s also a great source of antioxidantsand skin-nourishing fatty acids (stearic and linoleic). It also penetrates skin readily. This is just such a wonderful ingredient for skincare.

Sunflower oil: I love, love, LOVE sunflower seed oil! It’s really great for dry, dehydrated, or otherwise compromised skin because its linoleic acid content helps skin to make its own lipids, including ceramides, which are critical for proper barrier function. Sunflower seed oil also has a natural soothing effect on skin, making it great for reducing skin irritation.

Avocado oil: Avocado oil is richly moisturizing and nourishing for skin. It contains Vitamins A, D, and E, linoleic acid, oleic acid, and lecithin which help get rid of dry skin. It also has anti-inflammatory and collagen synthesis-stimulating activity.

Goat milk powder: Goat milk powder contains an abundance of beta-casein, vitamins and minerals that help to nourish and hydrate dry skin. It also contains lactic acid, which is a gentle yet moisturizing chemical exfoliant.

Honey: Honey is a natural humectant, meaning it is able to hold water on the skin, and it is also antibacterial.
Ceramide 3: Ceramides are an important component of your protective moisture barrier on your skin’s surface. This moisture barrier protects skin from infection and irritation, and when it is disrupted or destroyed through the use of too-harsh products, you may experience near-constant skin irritation, eczema flare-ups, dermatitis, etc. This ingredient is present in this formula for moisturization and barrier-strengthening activity.

Panthenol: This ingredient is able to penetrate skin fairly well and has softening and moisturizing properties. It also helps to soothe and protect irritated skin.

Hibiscus extract: Hibiscus flower extract is an antioxidant and also inhibit the degradation of skin’s elastin proteins.
MSM (methylsulfonylmethane): MSM is a sulfur compound that speeds up wound remodeling, reduces inflammation, and also acts as a penetration enhancer. Penetration enhancers allow ingredients access to deeper skin layers. I use MSM in this formula for its penetration enhancing abilities. Since cleansers are only on your skin for a short time, using a penetration enhancer in cleanser formulas allows for greater contact between skin and ingredients.

Cornstarch: This ingredient acts as a thickener in this formula.

Cetyl esters: This ingredient provides ‘slip’ to the formula, allowing the product to slide more easily across skin. It also acts as a thickener.

Tocopherol: Tocopherol is Vitamin E, and acts as a preservative in this formula, preventing the oxidation of the oils in the product and increasing the shelf life.

Gluconolactone (and) Sodium benzoate: This is the main preservative in this formula. It prevents the growth of bacteria, mold, fungus, yeast, etc.

Fragrance: This is the scent that is added to the product. Fragrance oil manufacturers are not required by law to disclose what compounds are in their fragrance oils. However, some will tell you what is NOT in their fragrance oils, and I base my fragrance oil purchases on this information. I make sure my fragrance oils are free of phthalates and known carcinogens. Because fragrance may be a source of irritation in a product formula, I offer all my products fragrance free as well as scented.

EDTA: EDTA is a metal ion chelator. This means that it scours the solution for metal ions, and once it finds them, it binds them very tightly, which makes them no longer a danger. Metal ions are highly reactive molecules that can cause oxidative damage to proteins, lipids, and DNA in cells. They are known to cause allergic reactions in skin, and generate inflammation.

I LOVE this face wash! I didn’t know how soft my face could me. I even used to use “non soap” face washes but they obviously still had the stripping agents in them because they would dry out my face and ultimately make my T zone more oily. A little goes a long way with this stuff!
