Description
INGREDIENTS: distilled water, behentrimonium methosulfate (and) cetearyl alcohol, stearamidopropyl dimethylamine, salicylic acid, cocodimonium hydroxypropyl hydrolyzed rice protein, hydrolyzed silk protein, panthenol, argan butter, jojoba oil, tocopherol, gluconolactone (and) sodium benzoate, polyquaternium-10, EDTA
INGREDIENTS EXPLAINED:
Behentrimonium methosulfate (and) cetearyl alcohol: Cationic self-emulsifying wax & quaternary conditioner consisting of 75% cetearyl alcohol and 25% behentrimonium methosulfate. This is the emulsifier in the formula. Emulsifiers are the compounds that keep the oil and water phases of the product homogeneously mixed by binding hydrophilic (water soluble) moieties with one part and binding hydrophobic (oil soluble) moieties with the other. It provides excellent conditioning and detangling effects and superior wet combing.
Stearamidopropyl dimethylamine: This is a cationic surfactant that conditions the hair due to its cationic nature (leaves a positive charge on hair). It prevents static buildup, conditions hair, and also increases the formula’s viscosity.
Salicylic Acid: Salicylic acid is a beta hydroxy acid (BHA), which is an oil-soluble chemical exfoliant. In this formula, it functions to exfoliate the affected areas on the scalp, greatly reducing flakiness while reducing the thickness of the psoriasis plaques.
Cocodimonium hydroxypropyl hydrolyzed rice protein: Very mild cationic quaternary ammonium compound made of hydrolyzed plant proteins derived from rice. It is an excellent conditioner, it strengthens the hair, it has excellent moisturizing & film-forming properties, and it is well absorbed by damaged ends of the hair making it ideal for hair repairing systems.
Hydrolyzed silk protein: A protein purified from natural silk noils (fibers, fibroin) from the cocoon of the silk worm. It has excellent moisture binding properties and adds luster, shine, body and manageability to hair.
Panthenol: Panthenol is able to penetrate hair easily and adds moisture and shine. It also helps to reduce split ends.
Argan butter: Butter derived from the kernels of the argan tree that moisturizes, adds shine, protects hair, protects from breakage and increases elasticity.
Jojoba oil: Jojoba oil is a lightweight, fast-absorbing oil with a structure similar to that of sebum, which is produced by the skin. When used in hair care, jojoba oil soothes the scalp, repairs breakage, and controls dandruff. It is also very hydrating for hair.
Tocopherol: Tocopherol is Vitamin E, and acts as a preservative in this formula, preventing the oxidation of the oils in the product and increasing the shelf life.
Gluconolactone (and) Sodium benzoate: This is the main preservative in this formula. It prevents the growth of bacteria, mold, fungus, yeast, etc.
Polyquaternium-10: PQ10 is a thickening quat conditioner that adheres easily to hair and provides superb wet combatibility, good manageability & curl retention.
EDTA: EDTA is a metal ion chelator. This means that it scours the solution for metal ions, and once it finds them, it binds them very tightly, which makes them no longer a danger. Metal ions are highly reactive molecules that can cause oxidative damage to proteins, lipids, and DNA in cells. They are known to cause allergic reactions in skin, and generate inflammation.

I have long hair. Before this conditioner I tried CGM, no poo, etc. After a while, my oily hair adjusted to have less oil, but my scalp broke out with painful zits. I couldn’t do it, so I went back to shampooing more often and my hair got dryer and my scalp got oiler.
NOW… I massage this conditioner on my scalp once or twice a week and leave it on for a few minutes. The rest of the week, I rinse my hair with regular conditioner but leave my scalp alone.
My hair is happy and healthier than ever. I wish Dr. Jen had a conditioner without the SA too, because I’d probably use it on the off days.

My husband uses this for his psoriasis on his scalp. It relieves the itching, reduces the plaques and tones down the redness on the plaques. Works better than his prescription shampoo which was starting to cause his hair to thin out.

My husband LOVES this co-wash. The man is blessed with amazing hair but his poor scalp, including the hair under his eyebrows and his beard gets so irritated, red, and flaky, but he has finally found relief with this product after trying so many others in the past. Thank you!

I’ve been using this conditioner since Dr. Jen starting testing it (4 years ago maybe?). I had developed dandruff a couple of years earlier and had tried a number of over the counter shampoos with little success. I don’t know if I actually have scalp psoriasis, but this works to keep my dandruff at bay. Washing conditioner out of my hair takes a long time so I’m lazy about using it, but I found if I actually use it as a co-wash that helps, and when I procrastinate and take longer than a week to use it my scalp definitely starts feeling itchy. 100% recommend for anyone with an itchy scalp and/or dandruff, you can try a sample size if you’re not sure if it’ll work.
