INGREDIENTS EXPLAINED:

Rosehip seed oil: This oil is a medium-weight emollient, in that it doesn’t absorb as quickly as say, jojoba oil, but it also doesn’t stay on top of the skin as long as the heavier oils like avocado or pomegranate seed oils. It has potent antioxidant activity. In this formula, it is acting as an emollient.

Hibiscus Oil: Hibiscus oil is antioxidant-rich, light to medium-weight, and nourishes skin with its high concentrations of Omega-6 Linoleic Acid.

Plum Kernel Oil: A medium-weight, gentle oil with antioxidant activity.

Argireline: Argireline is a peptide that has been shown to act in a similar manner to botox, in that it prevents full muscle contraction, which leads to a lessening of fine lines and wrinkles. Traditionally, argireline compounds have had iffy bioavailability, meaning it is difficult to access this activity. This version of argireline has been modified to increase its bioavailability, hurray for less muscle contraction!

Niacinamide (and) pea extract (and) chenopodium quinoa seed extract: This complex of niacinamide, pea extract, and quinoa extract acts to reduce blotchiness, blur skin imperfections, support even skin tone, and enhance skin’s luminosity over time.

Saccharomyces/rice ferment filtrate: Brown rice is fermented by yeast, and the resulting mixture is filtered, with the filtrate having SERIOUS antioxidant activity and Natural Moisturizing Factors that skin needs to stay hydrated and healthy.

Hydroxyethyl acrylate / sodium acryloyldimethyl taurate copolymer: This ingredient is the gelling agent for the serum. It is a Hydro-Swelling Droplet (HSD) form of emulsifier, and is used for cold emulsions, in which no ingredients are heated during the formulation of the product.

Dimethyl isosorbide: DMI is added to this formula as a penetration enhancer (hehe) to enhance penetration of actives to the epidermis, reaching areas that would otherwise go untreated. It also helps to stabilize active ingredients.

Tocopherol: Tocopherol is Vitamin E, and acts as a preservative in this formula, preventing the oxidation of the oils in the product and increasing the shelf life.

Retinol: Retinol is the gold standard in anti-aging active ingredients. It is one of the few actives that has been thoroughly researched and clinically proven to reduce wrinkle depth. It acts by stimulating skin cell turnover, bringing fresh, new skin cells to the surface for a brighter complexion.

Bakuchiol: Bakuchiol is a compound extracted from the seeds of the Psoralea Corylifolia plant, and has been shown to have retinol-like activity in skin. It stimulates skin cell turnover almost as well as retinol, and has also been shown to increase collagen production, which is super important for aging skin.

Fragrance: This is the scent that is added to the product. This particular product’s scenat is a sweet, gingery fragrance. Fragrance oil manufacturers are not required by law to disclose what compounds are in their fragrance oils. However, some will tell you what is NOT in their fragrance oils, and I base my fragrance oil purchases on this information. I make sure my fragrance oils are free of phthalates and known carcinogens. Because fragrance may be a source of irritation in a product formula, I offer all my products fragrance free as well as scented.

Phenoxyethanol: This ingredient is a preservative, and is responsible for preventing the growth of bacteria, mold, fungus, yeast, etc.

Lactobacillus ferment: This ingredient is a preservative, and is responsible for preventing the growth of bacteria, mold, fungus, yeast, etc.
