The latest in my arsenal of treatment products, Barrier Repair Serum is here to make your irritated skin happy again. It’s lightweight, but packs a hell of a moisturizing punch with loads of ceramides and hyaluronic acid to restore that protective layer to your skin. Always fragrance free, this product is a great addition to your dry skincare regimen, or as a rescue serum for damaged skin. Testers have described it as ‘manna from heaven’, so you know it’s some good stuff! Good for all skin types.

Available in 1 oz full size or a 0.3 oz sample size. Both come packaged in airless pump bottles, which increase shelf life and allow for the use of very mild preservatives because the product is kept under a vacuum and is not exposed to air. NOTE: sometimes, the presence of an air bubble in the product will cause the pump to not pump any product. If this happens, DO NOT REMOVE THE TOP. Simply tap the bottle on your bathroom counter and pump until product dispenses.

Description

INGREDIENTS: distilled water, jojoba oil, grapeseed oil, aloe vera, white tea extract, ceramide 3, ceramide NP (and) ceramide AP (and) ceramide EOP (and) phytosphingosine (and) cholesterol, rosehip oil, hydroxyethyl acrylate / sodium acryloyldimethyl taurate copolymer, hyaluronic acid, tocopherol, lactobacillus ferment, phenoxyethanol

INGREDIENTS EXPLAINED:

Jojoba oil: Jojoba oil is a lightweight, fast-absorbing oil with a structure similar to that of sebum, which is produced by the skin. It is a great emollient to use in formulas for oily/combo skin because it won’t cause breakouts. In this formula, it is present as a fast-absorbing emollient.

Grapeseed oil: Grapeseed oil is another fast-absorbing, non-greasy oil. It is also a good oil for combo/oily skin, as it won’t cause breakouts either. It has a high concentration of antioxidants and unsaturated fatty acids. It is present in this formula as a fast-absorbing emollient.

Aloe vera: Aloe vera has been shown to have anti-inflammatory, hydrating, and antioxidant activity with regards to skin. In this formula, it is present as both a moisturizing agent and an anti-inflammatory active.

White Tea Extract: This is an extract from green tea buds and leaves that has potent antioxidant and skin soothing properties. It is present in this formula for those exact reasons.

Ceramide 3: Ceramides are an important component of your protective moisture barrier on your skin’s surface. This moisture barrier protects skin from infection and irritation, and when it is disrupted or destroyed through the use of too-harsh products, you may experience near-constant skin irritation, eczema flare-ups, dermatitis, etc. This ingredient is present in this formula for moisturization and barrier-strengthening activity.

Ceramide NP (and) Ceramide AP (and) Ceramide EOP (and) Phytosphingosine (and) Cholesterol: A complex made up of ceramides III, IIIB and VI (2.5%), cholesterol (0.5%), free fatty acids & phytosphingosine (1%) that resembles the structure of the lipid barrier the skin. As with Ceramide 3, this complex helps to moisturize skin and strengthen its barrier function.

Rosehip oil: Rosehip seed oil has loads of antioxidants and unsaturated fatty acids, so it is very anti-inflammatory. In this formula, it is present as an emollient and anti-inflammatory active.

Hydroxyethyl acrylate / sodium acryloyldimethyl taurate copolymer: This ingredient is the gelling agent for the serum. It is a Hydro-Swelling Droplet (HSD) form of emulsifier, and is used for cold emulsions, in which no ingredients are heated during the formulation of the product.

Hyaluronic acid: HA is one of skin’s own natural moisturizing factors. It is hygroscopic, meaning it is able to pull moisture from its environment, which makes it great for a non-greasy addition to formulas meant to moisturize skin. It has antioxidant and antibacterial activity as well. The form used in this formula has been hydrolyzed (chopped into small pieces) in order to penetrate more deeply into skin.

Tocopherol: Tocopherol is Vitamin E, and acts as a preservative in this formula, preventing the oxidation of the oils in the product and increasing the shelf life.

Lactobacillus ferment: This ingredient is a preservative, and is responsible for preventing the growth of bacteria, mold, fungus, yeast, etc.

Phenoxyethanol: This ingredient is a preservative, and is responsible for preventing the growth of bacteria, mold, fungus, yeast, etc.

When the Chicago weather gets colder or even in the summer when air is drier than normal, I switch from the amazing PFM serum to Barrier Repair. It makes a noticeable difference in keeping my skin hydrated.
