EYE CREAM: The eye area is the most fragile and delicate skin of all. The skin is thin, and is not supported by any bones, so it is highly susceptible to damage from UV, inflammation, and environmental irritants. Proper eye skincare involves moisturizing the area, reducing inflammation, and protecting it from sun/product-induced damage. After age 35, you should be using an eye product created for aging skin. In addition to the above, anti-aging eye products should stimulate collagen synthesis in skin, provide support to structural proteins in skin layers, prevent deep muscle contraction, and reduce the depth of wrinkles.
There is an ocean of misinformation around eye creams, so let me help you sift through some of it:
**You will not prevent aging in your skin by applying anti-aging topicals to your non-aged skin. The processes upon which active ingredients are meant to work are not happening in your skin till your 30s, so using anti-aging eye cream is pointless. No amount of fancy pants eye cream applied when you’re 22 will do shit to prevent wrinkles from forming in your 30s/40s/50s. Wrinkles don’t work like that.
**I don’t know who needs to hear this, but that weird technique where you use a finger to dab on your eye cream is stupid and does nothing for you. You should use enough eye cream that your finger glides across the skin without pulling. We formulators often take advantage of concentration gradients to get active ingredients into skin cells, which means that we make a product with a high concentration of an active. The high concentration of the active outside the skin cell will push it into the cell where the concentration is lower in an attempt to achieve equilibrium. If you don’t apply enough product to the eye area because you’re dabbing tiny bits of it on with your pinky, this doesn’t happen. I know eye creams are super expensive, but why pay that much if you are gonna hoard it and not actually receive any of the benefits of the active ingredients?
**Let’s talk about dark circles under your eyes. Here is the thing: while there are ingredients that can reduce the darkness under eyes, if you are genetically predisposed to dark undereye circles, those ingredients will only ever be so effective, because the call is coming from inside the house. If your genes dictate dark circles, there is no topical in the world that will fully eliminate them, and anyone telling you their product can do that is lying to you.
My eye creams are wonderful! I don’t scent any eye products, so you can apply it to your lid and brow bone as well as around the outside of the eye. Here’s the skinny: NEW 20 EYE CREAM is my anti-aging eye cream. It has a smooth, buttery texture, and active ingredients like retinol, peptides that work pre- and post-synaptically to reduce muscle contraction, a bioferment of sea kelp to tighten and firm skin, and peptides to reduce the appearance of bags and dark circles. SKIN ZEN EYE CREAM is an anti-inflammatory eye cream. This product is the holy grail of eye creams if you deal with eczema flareups on your eyes. It is great for people with sensitive skin. HYDRO-BOMB EYE CREAM is my ultra-moisturizing eye cream. If you have trouble with dry skin, this eye cream is your bff. It has rich emollients like shea and avocado butters, aloe vera and colloidal oatmeal to reduce inflammation and redness, and actives to prevent transepidermal water loss (TEWL). NO BAGGAGE EYE GEL is a lightweight gel-cream that works to reduce puffiness and dark circles. It is a goddamn miracle during allergy season. Just sayin.
