Fun fact: inflammation presents as red, dry, scaly patches on your skin. It will not go away with exfoliation, and is caused by your skin encountering an irritant or infectious agent, which kick-starts the inflammation process. The best way to get rid of these patches is to reduce inflammation using a topical product containing anti-inflammatory active ingredients. These ingredients include (not an exhaustive list): chamomile extract, calendula extract, comfrey extract, any tea extracts except black tea, grapeseed extract, cucumber extract, aloe vera extract, oats/oatmeal, allantoin, bisabolol, mallow extract, etc. The anti-inflammatory activity should make that red, scaly patch go away. If not, you may need to get a prescription for a steroid ointment from the dermatologist. Steroids are the biggest, burliest, most badass anti-inflammatories, so they will definitely clear up your skin. The downside to them is that they thin the skin with prolonged use, so use your steroid ointment only until you see improvement, and then you can try moving to a regular topical with anti-inflammatory actives, like my Skin Zen products. #themoreyouknow
